Find the right bike route for you through Huonville, there are number of routes to explore.

Huonville Bike Rides

If you are staying at River Front Estate there is a 28 km loop ride upstream past the bridge to Glen Huon and Judbury. The return loop heads downstream past Ranelagh to Huonville (some dirt road on the eastern bank).

Franklin

Is just 8 km past the Huonville Bridge (road ride), visit this historic town with its rich maritime history, either return or continue down the coast road to Port Huon.

Ranelagh

There is a network of back roads through Ranelagh, Lucaston, Crabtree and Mountain River while the Huon Highway has a good shoulder for riding. Around this area there are a variety of ‘fuel’ stops – whether you are looking for a light lunch or a refreshing wine or cider tasting along the way.

Cygnet

Cygnet is much favoured by local cyclists. A ride not to missed is the day loop around the Cygnet Coast Road. The full circuit is about 30 km but the scenic views along the Huon River are magical.

Dover

The Esperance Coast Road from Dover to Police Point extends for 20 km with some short, steep undulations. It is a short 7 km ride to visit Roaring Beach by bike from Dover.

Mountain Bikes Trails in the Huon Valley

Abound along forestry or coastal roads from Bruny Island to Cockle Creek but there are also specific mountain bike trails at Geeveston, Pelverata, Snug, Coningham and Margate to name a few. The best online reference can be found at www.tassietrails.org/.

Snug Tiers (Grey Mountain and Pelverata Falls)

Distance 25kms, Intermediate, Duration Day
Time (hrs) 2-4 hours
This ride ties together a couple of out and back rides to Grey Mountain and Pelverata Falls into a loop of sorts. It is probably more for adventurous local riders who don't mind some rough tracks and who are looking for a short bit of technical riding with some nice views at the end.
However it can also make a great day out for less experienced riders just so long as you are willing to walk your bike a bit. There are plenty of options to extend or shorten this ride for those looking for more or less hours in the saddle.

Reuben Falls (Tahune Airwalk)

Distance 49km (plus 2.5km walk) Intermediate
Duration Single Day
Time (hrs) 4-6 hours
This route is mainly on gravel roads, but don't let that put you off as there's some great highlights along the way including a beautiful section of old trail running up along the Huon River which will have those who don't mind getting wet and muddy grinning from ear to ear. Add to this a trip past the once controversial Southwood site, a visit to Glovers Bluff, a walk out to Reuben Falls and of course starting and finishing at the Tahune Airwalk ... This is a good day out.

Pelverata Falls (Snug Tiers)

12km (6km each way) Intermediate Duration Single Day
Time (hrs) 1-3 hours
Trail Category Bush Tracks and Gravel Roads
The ride out to the top of Pelverata Falls is a fun, but at times challenging, ride with lots of big puddles and rocky sections to navigate through. It is probably more for local riders looking for a short bit of technical riding with some nice views at the end. However it can also make a great day out for less experienced riders (just so long as you are willing to walk your bike a bit) and there are plenty of options to extend this ride for those looking for more hours in the saddle.

Palawa Lugganah Track

Is a not-for-profit community project put forward by South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation (SETAC), partnering with the HuonTrails.org, weetapoona (SE Tribe) and Parks and Wildlife Services. This is a volunteer-run project, entirely for the benefits of the community.
